Webinar - The Fatal Five

This webinar will focus on five of the most common health risk factors and how to manage them in less restrictive settings.

The fatal Five are:
* Bowel Obstruction
* Aspiration Pneumonia
* Status Epilepticus
* Sepsis
* Dehydration

We will tell you how to recognize them in persons who do not communicate effectively and how to track them to allow early intervention. We will also discuss the Signs and Symptoms of settings that either help or hinder the development of the Fatal Five. The webinar will be applicable to clinical, administrative and program services professionals.

Karen Green McGowan, RN, CDDN will be the Presenter. The webinar will last one hour and allow time for Q&A.

Ms. McGowan is a clinical nurse consultant who specializes in technical assistance to agencies serving persons with complex health needs. She has provided training, technical assistance and curriculum development to clinicians, administrators and direct care staff in identifying and removing or reducing health barriers to development for over 35 of her 47 years in the field of DD/ID. She has developed systems approaches to identifying health risk potential and assisted several states in the design and implementation of strategies to manage individuals in dispersed community systems.
